The Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia published an update reiterating its supervisory focus on strengthening corporate governance in financial cooperatives, in the context of its Delegate for Financial Intermediaries speaking at the launch of the Corporate Governance Project organised by the Guarantee Fund for Cooperative Entities (Fogacoop). The Superintendencia framed corporate governance as a differentiating factor for the sustainability and growth of financial cooperatives and linked it to regional impact and financial inclusion. From a regulatory and supervisory perspective, it expects governance bodies, particularly boards of directors, to take a strategic role in implementing good practices and to oversee how senior management executes these initiatives. The authority also pointed to tools such as the Código País Survey (Encuesta de Código País) and noted that four supervised cooperatives are securities issuers, which it said supports the adoption of stronger governance practices.
