The European Central Bank published its weekly balance sheet, showing total assets and liabilities of EUR 6,218,303 million, a decrease of EUR 28,624 million compared with the prior week due to transactions. On the asset side, securities of euro area residents denominated in euro fell by EUR 28,858 million, mainly reflecting a EUR 28,544 million decline in securities held for monetary policy purposes. Lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations increased by EUR 234 million, driven by a EUR 225 million rise in main refinancing operations, while longer-term refinancing operations were unchanged. On the liability side, euro area credit institutions’ monetary policy-related balances decreased by EUR 46,474 million, with the deposit facility down EUR 44,202 million and current accounts down EUR 2,271 million; liabilities to non-euro area residents denominated in euro rose by EUR 11,370 million.
