Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Michele Bullock outlined the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics’ strategy for the next three years in opening remarks to its biennial conference. The strategy focuses on modernizing central bank statistics, advancing artificial intelligence and data innovation, and strengthening data governance and the future data ecosystem. The committee will support the integration of traditional statistics with new data sources and analytical techniques, promote practical and replicable AI use cases, and develop governance frameworks that ensure data quality and appropriate guardrails and transparency around AI. A member survey identified AI as central banks’ highest-priority innovation topic. The committee has also brought the Central Bank Data Collaboration Group under its umbrella to strengthen cooperation and reduce duplication while preserving the group’s operational autonomy. Implementation will concentrate on a limited number of priorities where members seek collaboration. The committee will also assess interest among central banks in participating in narrowly scoped working groups.
