The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) and AEOTrade (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to explore how verifiable organizational identity can support an open, inclusive and secure infrastructure for trusted global digital trade, with a focus on electronic bills of lading (eBLs). Under the MoU, the parties will promote interoperability between global digital identity standards, including the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and the verifiable LEI (vLEI), and international digital trade protocols such as AEOTradeChain. AEOTrade’s planned integration of vLEI into its AEOTradeChain blockchain platform is intended to verify the identities of all participants and ensure the authenticity, uniqueness and compliance of each eBL, aiming to improve security, accuracy and efficiency across trade processes and supply chains. The collaboration builds on AEOTrade’s participation in the inaugural GLEIF vLEI Hackathon, where it was runner-up in the Trade, Supply Chain, and SME Finance category. GLEIF and AEOTrade also plan to accelerate the development of real-world use cases and explore broader opportunities for collaboration to advance the global digital trade technology ecosystem.
