The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a press release by China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited about a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing recipients to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions through or in response to the fraudulent website or login screen should contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
