The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the blocking of five websites that it says are unlawfully offering insurance services: preventivi.nobileassicurazioni.it, calvagnamotori.com (and www.calvagnamotori.com), rca.christiancenedese.it (and www.rca.christiancenedese.it), mediterraneainsurance.it, and polizze.mediterraneainsurance.it (and www.polizze.mediterraneainsurance.it). The blocks are being implemented by internet service providers operating in Italy and, for technical reasons, may take several days to take effect. The action brings the number of abusive websites blocked by IVASS since it began exercising this power in November 2023 to 357. IVASS also cautioned consumers against policy offers made via instant messaging (for example WhatsApp) or text messages and against payment requests using prepaid credit cards, and urged checks against the official lists of insurance intermediaries and insurance undertakings supervised by IVASS.
