The Central Bank of Comoros has begun the gradual introduction of updated KMF 10,000 and KMF 5,000 banknotes into national payment channels from Jan. 5, 2026. The move is not a currency change or a redesign of the notes, but an update to the existing series aimed at strengthening protection against counterfeiting while preserving the notes’ general appearance for everyday use. The changes focus mainly on security features, including new graphic and dynamic elements designed to be easier for the public to identify and harder to reproduce. Some features produce specific visual effects when the note is viewed or tilted. Official markings have also been updated, including the 2025 issue year and the sole signature of Gov. Dr. Younoussa Imani. Existing and updated banknotes will circulate at the same time and remain usable without restriction. The rollout is accompanied by visual information materials, including an authentication guide, to help users recognize the new security features.
