Securities Commission Malaysia reported that former unit trust consultant Amran bin Mohd Amin was sentenced in two Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court proceedings for securities fraud involving fraudulent unit trust investments. Each court imposed 18 months’ imprisonment and a MYR 1 million fine, with the prison terms to run concurrently from his arrest on Sept. 8, 2025. Failure to pay the fines would add a total of 12 months to the effective 18-month prison term. Amran pleaded guilty to two charges, while the courts considered two further charges in sentencing under a plea bargain. Between July 2021 and June 2022, he falsely represented that MYR 195,000 from a father and son and MYR 20,000 from a married couple would be invested in unit trust funds managed by Kenanga Investors Berhad. The funds were instead used for unit trust investments held by Amran or his former wife without the victims’ consent and were subsequently redeemed for other purposes. Proceedings against Amran’s former wife, Nadihah binti Nawi, will continue, with hearings scheduled for October and November 2026.
