The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public after receiving reports of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited, referencing a bank press release linked on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Password via phone, email or SMS, including through embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided information or conducted transactions through the relevant websites or login screens were advised to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
