The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission announced joint arrangements with the Department of Land Transport, alongside representatives of the Thai General Insurance Association, to coordinate urgent assistance for people affected by flooding in several southern provinces, with a focus on speeding and simplifying motor insurance claims. For vehicles deemed a total loss, the Department of Land Transport will facilitate policyholders obtaining a copy of the vehicle registration handbook from the provincial transport office where the vehicle is registered using only a national ID card, addressing cases where documents were lost or damaged in the floods. Insurers will also support customers who cannot complete the process themselves by acting under authorisation and using available document copies to help accelerate claim assessment and payment in line with policy terms. For partial loss claims, insurers are to prioritise initial damage assessments using information such as floodwater levels and impacts on vehicle systems, promptly route repairable vehicles to approved repair centres, and expedite inspection and repair timelines, including flexibility on certain documentation in flood-affected areas where access constraints prevent timely retrieval. Both agencies will closely monitor implementation and direct local officials to facilitate information provision, document copy issuance and coordination with insurers to ensure affected policyholders receive timely and fair support.
