The National Bank of Serbia published first-quarter 2026 payments data showing continued strong growth in online purchases made with cards and electronic money. Total internet purchases rose 39.7% year on year to 32.9 million transactions, including 23.8 million on domestic websites and 9.1 million on foreign sites. Transactions in Serbian dinars, euros and US dollars accounted for 98.2% of all online payments. Purchases in dinars increased 44.5% from a year earlier to 23.8 million, while their total value rose 49.8% to RSD72.6 billion. On foreign websites, the number of euro-denominated payments rose 41.8% to 7.2 million and their value increased 34.9% to EUR277.1 million. By contrast, the number of US dollar purchases fell 15.1% to 1.4 million, although their total value increased 15% to USD67 million. More than two-thirds of all online purchases in the quarter, or 72.2%, were made in the domestic currency. The number of domestic online stores reached 5,948 at the end of March, up 20.2% from 4,947 a year earlier. The central bank noted that the figures do not include purchases paid cash on delivery because it does not hold those data.

The National Bank of Serbia reported that online card and e-money purchases rose 39.7% year on year in the first quarter of 2026 to 32.9 million transactions. Dinar payments remained dominant, accounting for 72.2% of all online purchases, while euro payments on foreign sites also grew strongly. Domestic online stores increased 20.2% to 5,948 by the end of March.
