Senate Banking Committee ranking member Elizabeth Warren and other congressional Democratic leaders called for Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte to resign, alleging that severe budget cuts are unlawfully dismantling the agency’s Office of Inspector General. They said Congress should hold Pulte accountable if he does not step down. The lawmakers alleged that the cuts could eliminate approximately 40 law enforcement positions responsible for combating mortgage fraud and would prevent independent scrutiny of Pulte’s conduct, including his alleged use of private mortgage data in politically motivated investigations. They also linked the move to President Donald Trump’s removal of the acting inspector general in November 2025.
