The National Bank of Moldova published monthly statistics on new lending and interest rates, showing that new loans granted in June 2025 totalled MDL 6,952.8 million, up 6.0% from May. The average nominal rate on new loans in Moldovan leu rose by 0.10 percentage points to 9.04%, while the average rate on foreign-currency loans fell by 0.21 percentage points to 5.20%. Leu-denominated lending accounted for 75.6% of new loans (MDL 5,256.0 million), increasing 2.4% month on month. Two-to-five-year maturities were the most requested, representing 57.2% of new loans, with lending to legal entities in this maturity bucket equal to 36.9% of total new lending. Households contracted MDL 2,498.3 million in new loans (+1.1%), mainly for consumption (61.5%); most consumer loans (MDL 1,357.7 million) were in leu and for two-to-five-year terms, while mortgages represented 38.3% of household borrowing and were mainly in leu. For households, the average leu rate increased to 10.78% for consumer loans (+0.24 percentage points) and to 7.35% for mortgages (+0.21 percentage points). For legal entities, leu loan volumes rose 3.2%, foreign-currency loans increased 17.5%, and exchange-rate-indexed lending doubled; non-financial commercial companies accounted for 91.3% of new corporate loans and represented 57.5% of total new loans. The average leu rate for corporate loans held at 8.57%, while the average foreign-currency rate fell by 0.17 percentage points to 5.20%.
