National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu met Bank of Lithuania Governor Gediminas Šimkus to discuss deeper institutional cooperation, continued technical assistance and support for Moldova’s integration into the European Union. The talks covered the EU-funded European System of Central Banks technical assistance program for 2027-2028 and Lithuania’s forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union. Cooperation under a 2023 memorandum builds on an earlier EU twinning project that strengthened Moldova’s macroprudential framework and insurance supervision. Dragu also reviewed Moldova’s progress in integrating its financial sector with the European market. Almost one year after SEPA transfers became operational, they account for more than 81% of cross-border euro transfers by number and about 47% by value. The discussions also addressed the MIA instant payment system, external macroeconomic risks and alignment with EU requirements on central bank independence.
