The Bank of the Lao held a review meeting on the implementation of two credit policies, covering a credit programme to stimulate the economy and a credit programme to channel funding to local areas, focusing on results achieved, operational challenges and corrective measures to improve delivery. Implementation figures presented at the meeting showed that the local funding programme had supported 1,241 beneficiaries across 18 provinces with LAK 2,114 billion approved and drawn. Under the economic stimulus programme, which uses commercial bank funding with an interest subsidy from the Bank of the Lao, total lending reached LAK 5,097 billion to 55 beneficiaries across 10 provinces, with LAK 132.56 billion in interest subsidies provided; updates were also provided by participating central bank units, regional branches and six participating commercial banks. Challenges and proposals raised during the review are to be consolidated and submitted to the government to guide the next stage of implementation.
