The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission has opened the 14th intake of its Advanced Insurance Studies Program, a six month executive course intended to strengthen leadership and cross sector networks in insurance and risk management. The program brings together 150 senior participants from government, finance, the insurance industry and the private sector, with the stated aim of equipping them to apply insurance and risk management knowledge in their organizations and to act as "Insurance Ambassadors" in wider society. The Office of Insurance Commission framed the course as a response to more complex risks facing Thailand, including economic shocks, natural disasters, climate change and technology related risks. Updated course content includes artificial intelligence, InsurTech, cyber risk and climate risk, alongside broader insurance, risk management and strategic management topics. In remarks at the opening, the chair of the Office of Insurance Commission's board said insurance penetration in Thailand is about 5% of GDP but that gaps remain in extending coverage and awareness across all population groups, particularly through measures such as microinsurance, broader distribution channels and continued confidence building in the insurance system. The training will run over six months and is intended to support continuing exchange among participants from different generations and sectors while building a longer term leadership network for Thailand's insurance system.
