Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance has outlined the agendas for the Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council meetings in Luxembourg, with energy market pressures and European capital market integration as the main themes. Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who is also Eurogroup president, will chair the Eurogroup meeting and participate in the ECOFIN meeting on Oct. 9. Eurogroup ministers will assess the economic effects of energy market developments, the efficiency of public finances and progress on the Savings and Investments Union. In an expanded format, they will consider initiatives to deepen capital markets, channel savings into productive investment and broaden financing options for businesses. Greece will be represented at the Eurogroup by Deputy Minister Thanos Petralias. ECOFIN will seek agreement on a general approach to the Market Integration and Supervision Package and discuss the competitiveness of the European banking sector. Ministers will also review implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the European Semester and the economic governance framework, as well as the financial effects of Russia's war against Ukraine. The meeting will coordinate European positions for upcoming G20, International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings and address climate finance ahead of COP31.
