The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) alerted the public to a press release by OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA, with a link to the bank’s notice made available via the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email, or SMS, including through embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through, or in response to, the fraudulent website or login screen is advised to contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
