The British Columbia Securities Commission announced the appointment of Noordin Nanji and Doug Seppala as new commissioners to its board. The BCSC said the appointments add securities law and financial markets expertise intended to support its investor protection and market integrity mandate. Nanji previously served as a partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP, where he led the Vancouver Corporate Group and sat on the firm’s National Partnership Board, with a practice focused on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, strategic transactions, technology and corporate governance. His prior roles include senior executive positions at Ballard Power Systems and partnership at Lang Michener Lawrence & Shaw (now McMillan) leading a capital markets and securities practice. Seppala was a partner and managing partner at DuMoulin Black LLP until 2019 and later served as special counsel, advising on private and public debt and equity offerings, compensation plans, M&A, shareholder disputes including proxy contests, complex contracts, and board governance and special committee matters.
