The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out through four websites offering insurance services illegally and has triggered their blocking by providers operating in Italy. The websites subject to the order are glabmilano-online.com, duzzleonline.com, convenzionesmi.it and lionellosrl.com (including the related www domains where present). Blocking activities are underway and may take several days for technical reasons. The cease-and-desist orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section, bringing the total number of sites subject to such orders to 216 since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also reiterated guidance for consumers to use caution when evaluating insurance offers via the internet, phone or instant messaging, especially for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts refer to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
