The Portuguese Insurance Regulator published an interview with its president, Margarida Corrêa de Aguiar, in Jornal Económico at the close of her mandate, offering an overall positive assessment of the past six years while noting the impact of budget restrictions and spending freezes on the authority’s autonomy. The review pointed to progress in institutional modernisation, strengthened regulation and supervision, and increased transparency, financial literacy and consumer protection. The interview also covered forward-looking issues, including a proposal to create a protection fund against seismic events, the need to stimulate long-term savings and reinforce financial literacy, and the role of an EU-harmonised tax framework in supporting the development of a European PPR.
