The Central Bank of Peru presented the book “Reactiva: Design and Results”, a publication that documents and analyses the design, implementation and impact of the Reactiva Perú programme created to mitigate the economic shock from the COVID-19 pandemic. The book compiles the Central Bank of Peru’s and the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s experience in creating a mechanism intended to mobilise liquidity rapidly to support the payments chain and reduce the risk of a prolonged downturn. It reports that Reactiva Perú ran in two phases and extended credit to more than 501,000 companies across all economic sectors, with micro and small firms accounting for 96% of beneficiaries and receiving historically low interest rates. At the launch event, Central Bank of Peru president Julio Velarde described Reactiva as successful and indispensable during the pandemic, while general manager Paul Castillo and former economy and finance minister Luis Miguel Castilla highlighted coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Cofide, and the role of monetary strength and credibility. A digital edition of the book is available via the Central Bank of Peru’s website.
