Jersey Financial Services Unit announced that Jersey will start securely sharing residents' basic personal data with UK credit reference agencies from 30 July 2026 to improve access to financial products, including credit cards, and reduce the administrative burden on credit providers. The data will be shared with Experian and Equifax so that banks and other providers can obtain basic information when assessing applications from Jersey residents, in a similar way to UK applications. The information to be provided automatically is limited to a resident's name, residential address and date of birth. Participation is not compulsory, and residents can opt out of the data sharing arrangement. The notice states that opting out may affect a resident's ability to access certain financial products in future. Residents who do not opt out before 30 July 2026 will have their data shared from that date. They can still opt out after that point, in which case Jersey will stop sending further data to the credit reference agencies, although information already shared will be retained by the agencies.
