The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) has published four new reports in its “Banking on Sustainability: From Principles to Practice” Responsible Banking Case Study Series and issued new member guidance through its Responsible Banking Blueprint. The materials are positioned as practical support for banks implementing the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and aligning strategies with frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The case studies draw on examples from PRB signatory banks operating in different regional, regulatory and commercial contexts, with a focus on sustainability innovation, impact, risk and opportunity assessment, and action and transition planning. UNEP FI highlights examples spanning green finance and climate initiatives, assessing nature and biodiversity impacts and related stakeholder engagement, advancing financial inclusion through climate-ready affordable housing, and prioritising human rights in sustainability management, alongside accompanying video insights. UNEP FI’s Responsible Banking Blueprint is presented as a roadmap covering climate, nature and biodiversity, healthy and inclusive economies and human rights, and is intended to be read alongside its strategy note on sector priorities. The Blueprint sets out seven focus areas: strategy, internal processes and policies, portfolio composition and financial flows, client engagement, advocacy and partnerships, target-setting and implementation via action and transition plans, and transparency and disclosure.
