The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten published the outcomes of the National Payment Council’s second meetings in 2025, including a joint decision to organise an information session for the business community on innovative payment options. The update also flags follow-on work on payment fraud awareness and the development of Instant Payments. The council discussed issues including local payment card fees, payment fraud, and further Instant Payment functionalities. It pointed to growing availability of payment methods such as payment links and QR-code payments, but noted that limited awareness among entrepreneurs can lead to unnecessary costs and reduced ease of payment for customers. Building on a joint awareness campaign against online payment fraud launched in November 2025, the council decided to repeat the campaign in 2026. Instant Payments are already used for local interbank real-time payments, and the central bank will explore in 2026 the technical possibility of international instant payments between Curaçao and Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Aruba, and the Netherlands.
