In remarks marking 60 years of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations, the Monetary Authority of Singapore outlined three priorities for the countries’ strategic partnership: keeping Asia open and connected, turning technological innovation into regional economic opportunities, and financing Asia’s energy transition. The remarks emphasized the role of financial institutions in supporting diversified supply chains, funding technology and infrastructure, and connecting regional projects with capital. Cooperation could span artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, digital trade, cybersecurity, FinTech and digital assets, with trust and sound governance underpinning adoption. On the energy transition, the remarks highlighted the ASEAN Power Grid and emerging low-carbon technologies, arguing that conventional project finance must be supplemented by transition finance and blended-finance structures such as Singapore’s Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership to make projects commercially viable and attract private investment.
