Brazil's National Treasury announced that it and the Central Bank of Brazil have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement to jointly promote initiatives aimed at expanding financial citizenship, with a particular focus on children and young people. The agreement provides for mutual support in delivering and promoting two flagship programmes: the National Treasury’s Treasury Direct Financial Education Olympiad (OLITEF) for basic education students and the Central Bank’s Aprender Valor programme, which offers schools free teaching resources to embed financial education into compulsory subjects. A 60-month work plan accompanies the agreement and sets out the specific actions and targets to be carried out. The authorities noted that, in OLITEF’s first edition in 2024, 32% of participating schools were part of Aprender Valor and 42% of the schools awarded in OLITEF had also joined the programme. The cooperation agreement was signed as part of the 12th National Financial Education Week (12–18 May 2025), during which the two institutions also held a joint virtual roundtable on using Aprender Valor school projects to support preparation for OLITEF.
