The South African Reserve Bank published its monthly statement of assets and liabilities as at 30 June 2025, reporting total assets of ZAR 1,272,050,851,730, a decrease of ZAR 1,118,977,255 from May 2025. Gold and foreign assets totalled ZAR 1,216,182,591,873 (down ZAR 2,159,262,403), reflecting lower gold holdings in rand terms (ZAR 235,343,636,613) and slightly lower foreign exchange reserves excluding special drawing rights (ZAR 864,859,601,839), partly offset by higher SDR holdings (ZAR 115,979,353,421). On the liabilities side, notes and coin in circulation rose to ZAR 169,544,698,437, while bank deposits fell to ZAR 336,204,075,868 and the gold and foreign exchange contingency reserve account declined to ZAR 350,025,322,889. The statement also reported a gold price of ZAR 58,338.74 per fine ounce and gold holdings of 4,034,088 fine ounces.
