The National Bank of Moldova published banking-system statistics on cash operations for January–March 2025, showing cumulative cash withdrawals from banks’ cash desks of MDL 41,237.5 million exceeded cumulative cash receipts of MDL 41,102.7 million by MDL 134.8 million. Both receipts and withdrawals increased compared with the same period of the prior year. Cash receipts rose by MDL 1,794.6 million (+4.6%) year on year, driven mainly by receipts from sales of consumer goods of MDL 22,802.0 million (55.5% of total receipts, +MDL 910.2 million or +4.2%), higher cash credited to individuals’ current and deposit accounts (+MDL 564.5 million or +14.2%), and receipts from rents and коммунal services (+MDL 221.6 million or +50.5%), while receipts from other services fell by MDL 239.2 million (-7.8%). Cash withdrawals increased by MDL 1,996.1 million (+5.1%), with the largest contribution coming from cash disbursed for banks’ purchases of foreign currency from individuals, up MDL 1,308.9 million to MDL 8,969.6 million (EUR 461.9 million equivalent) and accounting for 21.8% of total withdrawals; ATM withdrawals (+MDL 653.0 million or +3.8%) and cash loans to individuals (+MDL 434.4 million or +55.4%) also rose, while withdrawals for other purposes (-MDL 404.8 million or -7.7%) and for wages and social payments (-MDL 27.1 million or -0.7%) declined.
