The Belgium Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) announced that its deputy chair, Annemie Rombouts, has been appointed chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority’s (ESMA) Issuer Standing Committee (ISC), a central ESMA body responsible for policy work on issuer information. The ISC prepares and develops European regulation in this area, supports the further development and monitoring of European rules, and promotes supervisory convergence across topics including financial and sustainability reporting, the prospectus regime, takeover bids, transparency of major shareholdings and corporate governance. FSMA chair Jean-Paul Servais linked the appointment to the FSMA’s role in the European supervisory framework and noted that evolving regulation requires monitoring the balance between investor protection and the compliance efforts expected of companies.
