The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority and the Supreme Council for Media Regulation have signed a cooperation protocol establishing prior and ongoing oversight of digital applications and platforms linked to nonbank financial markets. The framework covers services that use relevant names, logos or trade names, conduct nonbank financial activities, or imply affiliation with entities or companies regulated by the Financial Regulatory Authority. Before licensing or permitting access to an application or platform within scope, the Supreme Council must notify the Financial Regulatory Authority and obtain its technical opinion. The authority will respond within 15 days after checking whether the name or activity conflicts with applicable laws or the rights of licensed and regulated entities. The two bodies will also exchange information to prevent platforms from misleading users about their regulatory status or affiliation.
