Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued amended notifications revising the definition of institutional investors and the investment capital measure used for financial qualification, broadening both to better reflect investors’ financial standing and to capture a wider range of products and market participants. The amendments are effective from 1 March 2026. The institutional investor definition now includes digital asset business operators, investment planners, and investment consultants. Investment capital now includes direct or indirect investment in securities, derivatives, investment tokens, and government tokens (G-token), and the SEC also expanded the institutional investor category used by securities and derivatives business operators for service provision to include digital asset business operators to align service and client treatment approaches across service types.
