The Central Bank of Belize has granted CRIF Information Services Belize Limited a licence to operate as Belize’s first licensed credit bureau, paving the way for a comprehensive credit reporting system. CRIF, a locally registered subsidiary of CRIF S.P.A., will collect and maintain credit data from credit information providers and use it to generate credit reports and scores to support lenders’ credit decisions. The Central Bank will supervise and regulate the credit bureau to ensure it meets required standards for credit reporting and consumer protection. The credit bureau is expected to go live later this year following successful testing and stakeholder readiness.
