The Sierra Leone Ministry of Finance published an update on a meeting between Finance Minister Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura and Economic Community of West African States Commissioner of Macroeconomics Kalilou Sylla, who was in Freetown for the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit. The discussion covered regional economic development, stability, infrastructure, digital payment systems and trade integration, with a review of macroeconomic convergence work and implementation of the ECOWAS Single Currency, ECO, roadmap. The meeting also revisited outcomes from the 13th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Convergence Council held earlier in Monrovia, Liberia. Participants included Sierra Leone finance ministry officials, Bank Governor Ibrahim Stevens and ECOWAS officials responsible for macroeconomic stability and multilateral surveillance, indicating coordination between finance and central bank authorities on regional convergence issues. During the Mid-Year Summit, Bangura is expected to present to the Council of Heads of State and Government the report and recommendations from the 67th Meeting of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of ECOWAS Member States.
