The World Bank Group announced that the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund have voted to hold the institutions’ 2029 Annual Meetings in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in October 2029. The last time the Annual Meetings were held in the UAE was 2003, when they took place in Dubai. The release reiterated that the meetings convene central bankers, finance and development ministers, private sector leaders, and civil society stakeholders to discuss global economic issues including financial stability, job creation, and poverty eradication, and that they are typically hosted for two consecutive years in Washington, DC, with every third year in a member country. The 2026 Annual Meetings are scheduled for October in Bangkok, Thailand, and will include an official signing ceremony for the UAE to host the 2029 Meetings.
