The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Ante Žigman of Croatia’s Hrvatska agencija za nadzor financijskih usluga (HANFA) as a new member of its Management Board, following an election at the ESMA Board of Supervisors meeting in Warsaw. He will take up the role on 6 July 2025, replacing Eduard Müller of Austria’s Finanzmarktaufsicht (FMA), whose mandate at the FMA ends on 5 July 2025. The Board of Supervisors also elected new Chairs for ESMA’s Investment Management and Issuers Standing Committees. The Management Board, chaired by ESMA Chair Verena Ross, is responsible for ensuring ESMA carries out its mission and performs the tasks assigned under its founding Regulation. From 6 July 2025, its members will be Verena Ross, Thorsten Pötzsch (Germany’s Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht), Vasiliki Lazarakou (Greece’s Hellenic Capital Markets Commission), Carlo Comporti (Italy’s Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa), Jos Heuvelman (the Netherlands’ Autoriteit Financiële Markten), Armi Taipale (Finland’s Finanssivalvonta) and Ante Žigman, alongside ESMA Executive Director Natasha Cazenave as a non-voting member, ESMA Vice-Chair Vojtech Belling as an observer, and a European Commission representative as a non-voting member. Carlos San Basilio Pardo of Spain’s Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores was elected Chair of the Investment Management Standing Committee and Annemie Rombouts of Belgium’s Financial Services and Markets Authority was elected Chair of the Issuers Standing Committee, with the Standing Committees described as expert groups drawn from ESMA staff and national competent authorities responsible for policy development in their respective areas.
