The Reserve Bank of Australia published its September 2026 official reserve assets data, showing total holdings increased by AUD 3.696 billion from August to AUD 109.715 billion at month-end. In U.S. dollar terms, reserves rose by USD 575 million to USD 76.548 billion. Foreign exchange holdings increased by AUD 5.230 billion to AUD 68.723 billion, more than offsetting declines in gold and other reserve assets to AUD 15.369 billion and AUD 2.980 billion, respectively. Special Drawing Rights rose to AUD 19.318 billion, while Australia's reserve position in the International Monetary Fund declined slightly to AUD 3.326 billion. Changes in reserve values can reflect foreign exchange transactions, earnings on foreign securities and market and exchange rate valuation effects.
