The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has approved the grant of Certificates of Registration to two new insurance entities and agreed to move forward with drafting and publishing regulations for stakeholder consultation to align the regulatory framework with the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Act, 2025. Registration approvals were granted to Allianz Jio Reinsurance Limited as a reinsurer and to Kiwi General Insurance Limited as a general insurer, allowing them to undertake business under the applicable regulatory framework. The Authority also considered the regulatory changes required by the SBSR Act, which was notified on 21 December 2025 and effective from 5 February 2026, and which amends the Insurance Act, 1938 and the IRDA Act, 1999. To expedite alignment and incorporate SBSR Act reforms, the Authority granted in-principle approval to draft and publish the required draft regulations for stakeholder consultation.
