The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority published remarks by its chairman, Mohamed Farid, delivered during a meeting with students and actuarial science trainees at the close of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) 2025 Regional Business Forum in Cairo, held under the Authority’s patronage and in partnership with the Federation of Egyptian Insurance Companies. The speech positioned actuaries as central to risk management and financial stability across insurance and wider financial activities, and framed actuarial work as fundamentally driven by data analysis and the creation of robust databases to support financial policy design and implementation. The three-day forum covered the evolving role of actuaries in a risk environment shaped by climate change, cyber risks, global conflicts and economic instability. The Authority also highlighted cooperation between the Federation and educational institutions to increase the supply of qualified actuaries for the Egyptian insurance market, including post-graduate upskilling for graduates from related disciplines. Under a cooperation protocol signed at the end of 2023 between the American University in Cairo and the Federation under the Authority’s patronage, 15 students graduated from the first cohort of the actuarial science diploma, with 12 completing the first track and three in the second track passing the SOA Financial Mathematics exam. Registration has opened for the second intake of the specialised professional actuarial diploma during the current year.
