The Central Bank of Peru published data showing that total credit to the private sector, including lending by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings institutions, and cooperatives, accelerated for the ninth consecutive month to 7.2% year on year in January 2026. Outstanding balances rose 0.2% from December 2025 to PEN 437,785 million. Household credit increased 6.8% year on year and credit to firms 7.4%. On a month-on-month basis, household credit grew 0.3% and corporate credit 0.2% (0.2% excluding Reactiva), while sol-denominated credit rose 5.4% year on year versus 13.6% growth in foreign-currency credit.
