The Bank of Japan published its Payment and Settlement Statistics for January 2026, updating official data used to track payment and settlement activity in Japan across BOJ-NET, private clearing and settlement systems, and selected retail payment instruments. Settlement via BOJ current accounts averaged 100,992 instructions per day and JPY 243.6 trillion in value, with major value components including call market-related transfers (JPY 89.9 trillion), delivery-versus-payment settlement for Japanese government bond transactions (JPY 99.7 trillion) and foreign exchange yen settlements (JPY 28.2 trillion). The Zengin System processed an average of 8.989 million transactions per day worth JPY 19.1 trillion, of which large-value payments of JPY 100 million or more averaged 14,079 transactions worth JPY 14.4 trillion. BOJ-NET participation at end-month stood at 490 institutions for funds transfers via current accounts, 461 for foreign exchange yen settlement services and 27 for Japanese government bond services.
