The Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) published the 2024 report and statistics for Nicaragua’s Tourism Satellite Account, showing tourism activity accounted for 5.5% of the economy’s total value added (5.2% in 2023). Tourism value added reached NIO 35,219.2 million, up 17.6% from NIO 29,944.3 million in 2023. Restaurants and similar services represented 35.2% of tourism value added, followed by accommodation (17.2%), transport (8.6%) and recreation (5.2%). Total domestic tourism consumption of goods and services increased 14.7%, driven mainly by a 45.5% rise in national residents’ consumption, partly offset by lower non-resident tourism consumption linked to fewer visitor arrivals; residents’ consumption was concentrated in restaurants (43.4%) and other tourism goods and services (34.9%), while non-residents’ spending focused on restaurants (33.6%), accommodation (25.8%) and transport (14.0%).
