Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) held two financial education events in Palembang, South Sumatra, Sumsel GENCARKAN & Youngpreneur Summit 2025 and the Syariah Financial Fair (SYAFIF) Goes to Palembang, as part of efforts to raise financial literacy and inclusion, including among youth and users of sharia financial products. The Youngpreneur Summit focused on encouraging young people to better understand and manage their finances in support of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and regional growth. The programme included a kick-off for Financial Literacy Month, the launch of the 100,000 “Sultan Muda” initiative, the inauguration of the Sultan Muda Sumsel Center, and the appointment of five OJK financial literacy ambassadors (OJK PEDULI), with total reach of 1,000 participants across in-person and online attendance. OJK also emphasised consumer protection and enforcement against illegal financial activity, citing more than 1,300 illegal entities shut down so far in 2025, including 1,100 illegal online lenders, and pointing to the Indonesia Anti-Scam Center as a mechanism to help safeguard public funds from digital fraud. SYAFIF Goes to Palembang ran for three days from 16 to 18 May 2025 at Palembang Indah Mall, featuring an expo, sharia finance education talk shows and public competitions, with 19 participating sharia financial services providers. OJK reported total national sharia finance assets of IDR 2,900 trillion as of March 2025 and cited survey results showing national financial literacy at 66% and inclusion at 80%, while sharia literacy rose to 43.42% but sharia inclusion remained 13.41%; Palembang is the second of five cities targeted for SYAFIF in 2025.
