The Reserve Bank of Australia published its balance sheet at the close of business on Sept. 16, showing total assets and liabilities and equity of AUD 356.713 billion, down AUD 373 million over the week. Gold and foreign exchange assets fell by AUD 705 million, mainly reflecting transactions in gold, foreign exchange and foreign securities. Australian dollar investments declined by AUD 173 million, primarily because of earnings and valuation changes, while other assets rose by AUD 505 million. On the liabilities side, Exchange Settlement balances increased by AUD 1.547 billion, offset by declines in other liabilities, deposits excluding Exchange Settlement balances, and other reserves and current-year earnings.
