The Angola Insurance Authority has outlined a new mandatory co-insurance regime approved by presidential decree with its technical input. The framework expands mandatory co-insurance to oil and mining activities, civil aviation, transport, and public infrastructure in the telecommunications, energy and water sectors, replacing the previous rules. Under the new framework, the authority will use objective criteria to identify insurers eligible to lead co-insurance agreements, while policyholders may choose among eligible firms. The regime also creates a general assembly for each co-insurance agreement to oversee operations and participate in decisions, requires external audits of financial flows, and strengthens coordination between ministries and regulators in identifying and updating insurable risks.
