The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission has issued flood claims guidance for policyholders and instructed insurers to prepare for a surge in claims by deploying sufficient adjusters, repair networks and vehicle recovery services. Policyholders should prioritize safety, notify their insurer even if evidence or documents are incomplete and collect photographs, videos and damage records only when affected areas are safe. Motor, home and property claims remain subject to the coverage and limits in each policy. For flood-damaged vehicles, policyholders should not start the engine and should check whether their policy covers flooding. The commission’s assessment guide for internal combustion vehicles ranges from estimated repairs of THB 8,000 to THB 10,000 where water reaches the floor carpet to total-loss treatment where a vehicle is fully submerged. Electric vehicle assessments must also account for battery damage and manufacturer requirements. Insurers have been told to assess coverage and compensation promptly, particularly for severe damage and potential total losses, with clearly proven claims eligible for payment within seven days. This continues the commission’s emphasis on accelerated handling of flood-related total-loss claims following severe flooding in southern Thailand in 2025. A centralized directory now brings together every insurer’s claims channels, alongside online policy-checking, advice and complaint services. The commission is also providing 24-hour flood-related assistance through Oct. 5 for policyholders who cannot reach their insurer or encounter claims problems.
