The Central Bank of Peru published data showing that formal employment nationwide rose 4 percent year on year in April 2026, extending the run of growth to 25 consecutive months and adding 254,000 formal jobs. Private-sector formal employment increased 5 percent over the same period. Real formal payroll mass, which measures total labor income, rose 7.6 percent from April 2025, supported by both higher pay and a larger number of jobs. Private formal employment growth was driven mainly by services, commerce and agriculture, which added 88,000, 49,000 and 29,000 jobs respectively. The release also showed gains in mining, manufacturing and construction. In the private sector, real payroll mass increased 7.1 percent year on year, led mainly by services and mining, marking a 25th consecutive month of improvement.
