The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has alerted the public to a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen related to Nanyang Commercial Bank, Limited, following a bank press release on the incident that was reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or carried out transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen was advised to contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
