The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission has published a policy statement on the implementation of the Directive on the Register of Beneficial Owners of Express Trusts and Similar Legal Arrangements, confirming that general public access to beneficial ownership information has been removed. Access will now be granted only to individuals or organizations able to demonstrate a legitimate interest. The amended CySEC Directive aligns with Law 188(I)/2007 in order to harmonise national law with Article 74 of Directive (EU) 2024/1640. CySEC said the restriction on access is also consistent with a relevant ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
