The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert to the public following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited press release on fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. It advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or login screens to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
